Samsung SE-S084 External DVD Writer

Have you ever been frustrated by the lack of a DVD or CD drive on your netbook?, well Samsung has the answer for that problem. Slim, jet black and portable would be just the words to describe Samsung’s SE-S084 external dual layer DVD writer that’s targeted at the netbook market and those who like using them.

Setting up the unit is as simple as plugging it in, and it doesn’t need an external power source either, as it’s drawn from two USB ports attached to a rather short cable. However, both of the cables need to be plugged in for it to work and often netbooks do not always have side by side USB ports, so it’s likely you will need a cable extender.

What’s more, the external writer can be used as a boot device, and can be disconnected and reconnected while the PC is turned on, something an integrated DVD cannot do. However, it is a tad bit slower than a desktop writer, but runs generally a lot faster than a netbook’s integrated DVD writer, and this is one of its plus points.

Overall, the SE-S084 is great product for netbook users that didn’t come with an optical drive, internal or otherwise. Not needing an AC adapter (which cone with most external DVD writers) and its reduced size and weight truly make it stand out from the rest.
